~~Earthquakes!~~

What do they mean?

Now aside from death and destruction we are asking what they mean in the light of Bible Prophecy. Before we start let us understand what is being said concerning earthquakes in the last days. Let us listen to Jesus as He spoke of this:

Matt 24:7-8

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilence’s, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Notice what the next verse is saying:

Matt 24:8

All these are the beginning of sorrows. (KJV)

The (NAS) states it a bit clearer.

Matt 24:8

"But all these things are {merely} the beginning of birth pangs.

Birth pangs of what?  Praise the Lord, the birth pangs of the kingdom of God.

At long last the final days have arrived.

This may seem a strange outlook concerning earthquakes that bring about destruction of both life and property.  However, to true Christians that understand the reign of Christ, over his kingdom, begins with the wrath of God, it is a time of joy... for the end truly is near.  Just the same we are talking of time as God sees it, which has nothing to do with our calendar.  Since earthquakes are one of the signs spoken of by Christ let us look and see if earthquakes today have any special meaning since 1914.

EARTHQUAKES exceeding 6.0 on the Richter scale

Between the years 1930 and 1940 there were 5 earthquakes recorded.

During the ten years of 1940 to 1950 there were only 4 recorded.  But of course these were the years of the Second World War.  Then as the ten years between 1950 and 1960 earthquakes more than doubled to 9.  As the years between 1960 and 1970 unfolded 13 rocked the earth.  The number of earthquakes reached over four times that amount during the period between 1970 and 1979 amounting to 51.  From 1980 to 1989 man has seen 86 earthquakes.  As we come to the close of the twentieth century, it should be noted that during the first three and half years of the 1990’s over 100 killer earthquakes exceeding a magnitude of 6 occurred.

If you are wondering why the above started at 1914 and the Second World War was mentioned it is because earthquakes are also recorded in Revelation.  However, Revelation is a symbolic writing and the earthquakes mentioned in this last book of the Bible represent the shaking up of kingdoms or governments.

Matt 24:7-8

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilence’s, and earthquakes, in divers places.

Christ told us all this was to happen almost

two thousand years ago.
